Relevant patent applications in this area are mainly controlled by a handful of large companies involved in the initial development and standardization of NFC such as Sony, NXP and Nokia, among which Sony is rapidly becoming a leading enterprise holding NFC technology. Although the number of patent applications in this period was small, it included a large number of basic patents and important patents with a high gold content. Since 2010, the number of patent applications in the field of NFC has grown rapidly. The number of related patent applications in 2011 increased to 1,196 and in 2012 to 2,312. In 2013 and 2014, the number of patent applications has kept growing but the growth has slowed down. During this period, mobile payment developed rapidly in various countries. Near-field mobile payment was favored by enterprises for its security and fastness. NFC was widely accepted as the main communication standard for near-field mobile payment, and standards were gradually unifying. Google, Samsung Apple and other major telecommunications companies have all launched near-field mobile payment solutions based on NFC technology, driving the industry to increase its efforts in research and development of NFC technology and increasing the number of patent applications. The development of mobile payment business has driven the development of NFC technology, and has also led to the rapid development of NFC in other fields such as data transmission and electronic ticket. Patent layout needs to be strengthened

Top 10 applications ranked by the top ten applicants are Samsung, Canon, Nokia, LG, Sony, Google, Blackberry, Qualcomm, ZTE, NXP, And to the communications industry, mainly foreign companies, Intel, Broadcom are among them.

As a leader in NFC technology, Sony, Nokia, NXP, Qualcomm, and Samsung have a large number of basic patents, and in all countries have a patent layout. In the analysis of 5 countries and regions in China, the United States, Europe, Japan and Korea, over 50% of Sony, NXP and Qualcomm patent applications are distributed in at least three of the above countries or regions. Samsung NFC technology has the largest number of global patent applications, the degree of commercialization of technology is also better.

NFC technology started with the rise of mobile payment applications in our country. Therefore, the late start of the technology was that the number of basic patents held by domestic enterprises was small and the patent layout was obviously weaker. ZTE Corporation is a leading enterprise in the field of NFC patents in China. ZTE holds the number of patent applications in the country and the number of patent applications held around the core technology. However, its layout is obviously weaker than that of other big companies such as Samsung and Sony.

China is a big country in the application of smart phones and has a vast market for commercial mobile payment at the same time, which has the favorable conditions for the development of NFC technology. However, at present, the near-field mobile payment market in China still pays mainly for two-dimensional codes. NFC technology has advantages in limited fields, such as bus cards. Can be said that China's NFC technology is not yet mature industrial applications, which for domestic NFC companies, both challenges and opportunities.

In recent years, the number of patent applications in China's NFC technology has been growing rapidly, but most of them are fragmented. The depth and systematicness of R & D are not enough. Relevant enterprises should enhance the in-depth and systematic research and development, and strengthen the layout of the patent for the existing patents. At the same time, as more and more domestic telecom companies move overseas, the awareness of global patent distribution should also be raised in order to protect the output of the products.

In addition to strengthening their own R & D enterprises, the acquisition of patents is also an effective way to rapidly enhance the competitiveness of the patent. As China's NFC technology is relatively weak in basic patents, access to the basic patents of NFC technology through the way of patent M & A becomes an important way to enhance the competitiveness of Chinese enterprises.
