Retriever Communications, a provider of enterprise mobility automation solutions for the industrial arena, announced today that it plans to co-sponsor a work plan with UTS over the next two years to gain insight into the actions and preferences of field personnel. This study will rely heavily on real-world observations and in-depth interviews to assess the role of innovative technologies in on-site workflow.
In the next 24 months, researchers will work with industrial and manufacturing companies to study the technology in two key areas:
User Experience: The Root of The Problem Is New Technology Boost Site Productivity at Home or Mere Imperfections and Burden? For example, what are the implications of using voice technology in workflow for point-specific data capture? How can augmented reality help solve display problems?
Industrial Internet: We all know that better data can help make better decisions. This area of investigation will confirm how best to integrate and present the machine's data (such as air-conditioning meters) for end-user approval. In addition, the study will examine the feasibility of using AR technology for distance learning and on-site operation guidance to confirm its impact on work efficiency.
Like the heuristic research for mobile apps in 2016, the research will be led by Professor Andrew Johnston. "We have a strong, hands-on team focused on interaction with UTS and we are very excited to continue working with Retriever Communications on the second project, and we look forward to exploring new technologies in the real world," he said. And discover the strengths and weaknesses and how best to use them to improve the on-site staff experience. "
Through this research, UTS will gain insight into how new technologies affect the operation of field workers and the future of industrial enterprises. Q4 2017 The first study results will be released.
Mary Brittain-White, CEO of Retriever Communications, said: "With the rise of new technologies, the fundamental issue in the industry has become a matter of how to make the site more efficient. History has proven that new technologies are totally ineffective if not field-centric. "
